After a brief boost of rallying around the President at the beginning of the pandemic, Catholic support for Trump has plummeted while opposition has skyrocketed. A new poll show him will reduced but still strong support among White Evangelical Protestants and static support among white mainline Protestants and secular voters, his support among Catholics has nosedived. Non-white Catholics remain overwhelmingly opposed to Trump.
The poll, by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), favorability rating among white Catholics has dropped almost by half since March, according to a new poll.
The Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) reported on Thursday that President Trump’s favorability among white Catholics fell from 60% in March to 48% in April to just 37% in May. In a polls by the right-wing EWTN, even they reported that Trump’s approval rating among Catholics overall was at less than half, in part due to overwhelmingly negative reviews by Hispanic Catholics who disapproved of him 71% to 29%.
